Geography

2 Semesters
Mandatory for All Freshmen
This course is designed to develop the student's knowledge of the world and its people. It will focus on events, the distribution of resources, the basic needs and role of the environment, cultural perceptions, and global decision-making. Students will incorporate two computer units using Word and PowerPoint.

World History
2 Semesters
Mandatory for All Sophomores
This course presents the student with a general historical survey of events, trends, ideas and human development from the Age of Enlightenment to the beginning of the 21st century.

AP European History
2 Semesters
Sophomore Honor Students
Requirement: a grade of "B" or higher in Honors English 9 or an "A" in English 9. A grade of "A" in Geography and a cumulative GPA of 3.60 or higher.  Approval of the department is required.

United States History
2 Semesters
Mandatory for All Juniors
This course is a complete survey of the history of our country from earliest times to the present. A main goal is the understanding of American History which is so essential to understanding our present day and the future.

AP United States History
2 Semesters
Junior Honor Students Only
Requirement: A grade of "A" in World History and Geography.
A grade of "B" or higher in Honors English 10 or an "A" in English 10
Approval of the department is required.

Upon passing the Advanced Placement exam in May, students can receive college credit at most California universities. This in-depth study of American History is designed to challenge the student to critically analyze the important issues of their time by looking into the past. Special attention is given to research and writing skills.

This course offers the student insight into the mechanisms of government and citizenship. Current affairs and the inquiry approach are utilized.

Economics

Mandatory for All Seniors
This course includes analysis of significant problems of the day and their application to the American economy.

AP Economics
Requirement: A grade of "B" or higher in Advanced Placement U.S. History and approval of instructor.

Psychology
1 Semester elective
Juniors & Seniors
This course gives the student a survey of the general aspects of the science of psychology. The course encourages the appreciation of the scientific method and readiness to apply it to problems in human behavior.

Sociology
1 Semester Elective
Juniors & Seniors
This course examines the ways in which groups of people interact with one another. It involves learning how inter group and intra group relationships take place. The course will also examine current social issues using the inquiry approach.
