The 2009 season will be exciting as the Golden Knights battle for the Mission League title and the Western Conference championship. This years schedule features non league opponents Notre Dame and Loyola as well as Arcadia, Crescenta Valley, Burroughs, Rio Mesa and El Rancho. The always tough Mission League schedule once again includes St. Paul, Bishop Alemany and Chaminade.
St. Francis will once again be led by player of the year Dietrich Riley (senior). Expect to see Dietrich at multiple positions on both sides of the ball. “We tried a lot of that last year and kept moving him around," Head Coach Jim Bonds said. "We'll do similar things with a few new wrinkles. He's going to make an impact no matter where he is." That could be at receiver, running back, linebacker or defensive back. Said Coach Bonds: "He has unbelievable hands, an ability to run by people, cover people and hit people."
The leadership on the team comes from this years honorary Golden Knights: Chris Cabrera, Justin Posthuma and Dietrich Riley. "We have a great group of young men and great chemistry on this team," Bonds said. "We hope togetherness, brotherhood and relentless effort will take us over the hump."
Coach Bonds, entering his 10th season is excited about this years team. “If we play smart and with energy and enthusiasm, great things will happen.”
Please come out and support the team!
